Enroll/Cost

Health Institution Students (Hard Waiver)
All Health Institutions and medical students are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan at registration unless proof of comparable coverage is furnished.

International Students (Mandatory)
All International Students holding non-immigrant visas are required to purchase this Student Health Insurance Plan in order to complete registration, except for those students who provide proof of comparable coverage in writing.

All Other Students (Voluntary)

Voluntary Undergraduate Students
All fee-paying Undergraduate Students taking at least seven (7) credit hours each semester at a UT System Institution(s) are eligible to enroll in SHIP.

Voluntary Graduate Students
All fee-paying Graduate Students taking at least four (4) credit hours each semester at a UT System Institution(s) are eligible to enroll in SHIP.

Voluntary Graduate Student Employee and SUPER Scholars are eligible to enroll in SHIP.

Other Voluntary Students
Students working on research, dissertation, or thesis, post doctorate, scholars, fellows, visiting scholars, ESL program students, Fast Track Degree Program students, students who are deemed full-time by the campus Disability Services department, or other groups with reduced coursework that meet the criteria for exemption as defined and approved by UT System are eligible to enroll in SHIP.

Summer Undergraduate Students
All fee-paying Summer Undergraduate Students taking at least four (4) credit hours at a UT System Institution(s) are eligible to enroll in SHIP.

Summer Graduate Students
All fee-paying Summer Graduate Students taking at least two (2) credit hours each semester at a UT System Institution(s) are eligible to enroll in SHIP.

When enrolling, please keep in mind the 25/26 policy year is 08/14/2025 - 08/13/2026 and 26/27 policy year is 08/14/2026 - 08/13/2027. Choose the policy year you need based on these dates. If your dates in the US overlap, you will enroll in both options with your start and stop dates based on the above policy year dates.

STOP - If you are still attending University of Texas and are eligible for Student Health Insurance - DO NOT ENROLL HERE.  

Continuation coverage is available for students who no longer meet eligibility. Student must be enrolled previous semester to be eligible. All students and their dependent(s) can purchase three (3) months of additional medical coverage. (Dental is not available.) Continuation must be purchased within thirty one (31) days of the current coverage termination date.

If you are enrolled in UT Select and moving to UT SHIP or vice versa and will experience a GAP in coverage at the beginning of the semester, you will enroll in this one month option to "bridge" that GAP. Do not enroll in this coverage if this does not apply to your situation. Click the button below to Enroll in UT Gap Coverage. Eligibility will be verified upon submission of an enrollment application.
